Bird x Bird Art Exhibit Opens at Carleton College

September 18, 2006

Selected works from the artist collective Bird x Bird, including highlights from its annual fall exhibitions, will open at Carleton College’s Gould Library on Friday, September 22.

“Bird x Bird: Artists Make Art for the Birds” will feature works by 21 regionally and nationally known contemporary artists, including Carleton art department faculty members Daniel Bruggeman, David Lefkowitz and Linda Rossi.

Since 2002, Bird x Bird has enlisted painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors and multimedia artists to create works of art about and for birds. Each year the artworks are exhibited and auctioned, raising money to benefit environmental organizations.

The collective has grown from 10 to 150 participants and including artists from throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. Exhibitions are curated by founder and artistic director Cynde Randall. Lefkowitz, an assistant professor of art at Carleton, is among the collective’s founding artists.

An opening reception for “Bird x Bird: Artists Make Art for the Birds” will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Gould Library. The exhibit will run through November 19.
