Archbold to Present Organ Concert

Carleton College music professor and Enid and Henry Woodward College Organist Lawrence Archbold will present an organ recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 24 in the school’s Concert Hall. The recital is the 16th in his continuing series, “Exploring Organ Music.” The event is free and open to the public.

The recital—“Organ Music of the 17th and 18th Centuries: From Stylus Fanasticus to Style Galant”—will feature a selection of music by Dieterich Buxtehude, including the Passacaglia in D and the Praeludium in E. The performance will also include works by J.L. Krebs, C. P. E. Bach, and Galuppi and will conclude with J. S. Bach’s the “Great” A Minor.

Archbold has published French Organ Music: From the Revolution to Franck and Widor, along with several articles and essays concerning German Baroque and French Romantic organ music. He also has presented lectures at national meetings of the American Musicology Society and the American Guild of Organists, and has performed more than 100 organ recitals in his career.
