A collection of student acts called “We Speak,” celebrating Black History Month, will be performed on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. Sponsored by the Black Students Alliance (BSA), the event is free and open to the public.

“We Speak” is held annually on the Carleton campus to commemorate Black History Month. Each year, Carleton students perform acts that relate to African American history and issues. Past “We Speak” shows have featured dance, vocal, dramatic, and poetry performances. Every year, more than 200 students attend this event.

Senior biology major Love Anani (Houston), president of the BSA, has participated in “We Speak” since his freshman year. Says Anani, “‘We Speak’ gives black students an opportunity to have an uninhibited voice on campus. ‘We Speak’ is a reminder that black students and those who support them have a voice and need to be heard.”

The Black Students Alliance, one of many multicultural groups at Carleton, provides a support base for African and African American students, sponsors black cultural events, and promotes awareness of issues in the black community to enrich the lives of Carleton students.

The Carleton College Concert Hall has limited accessibility. For more information, call the Office of Intercultural Life at (507) 646-4495.
