Carleton's Global Cinema Series Continues with "Monsoon Wedding"

March 7, 2012

An ongoing series of films at Carleton College’s Weitz Center for Creativity, showcasing the best of contemporary cinema from around the world, continues tonight at 7 p.m. with a screening of "Monsoon Wedding." The Global Cinema series, presented by the College’s Department of Cinema and Media Studies and curated by assistant professor Jay Beck, is free and open to the public.

“Monsoon Wedding” (India, 2001), directed by Mira Nair, is set in modern-day India. The film follows the Verma family as they prepare for their daughter’s arranged wedding. As relatives arrive from around the world, the father’s rejection of modernity and the daughter’s secret affair cause tensions in the family.

For more information about all screenings, including disability accommodations, contact Carleton College Director of the Art Steve Richardson at (507) 222-4389. The Weitz Center for Creativity is located at 320 Third Street East in Northfield.
