Carleton College to Host Earth Day Celebration, Weitz Center LEED® Status

April 18, 2013

Carleton College will host an Earth Day event celebrating the Weitz Center for Creativity’s LEED® Gold certification on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m.

The event, to be held in the Class of 1980 Commons area of the Weitz Center, will begin with remarks by Fred Rogers ‘72, vice president and treasurer, who was a student at Carleton at the first Earth Day celebration. Rogers will be followed by Scot Horst, senior vice president with the U.S. Green Building Council, who will talk about the significance of LEED certification, what this represents for Carleton, and the uniqueness of receiving such a certification for a repurposed building rather than new construction. Horst, a Northfield native, attended middle school in what is now the Weitz Center. He will present Carleton President Steven G. Poskanzer with a plaque designating the Weitz Center as LEED® Gold certified.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information about this event, including disability accommodations, contact the Carleton Office of College Relations at (507) 222-4308. The Weitz Center for Creativity is located at Third and College Streets in Northfield.
