In conjunction with the Perlman Teaching Museum's Ayomi Yoshida: As Cherry Blossoms Fall and Falling Blossoms, Floating World exhibitions, International Film Forum will screen The Makioka Sisters (細雪), a lyrical study of a family at a turning point in history. Structured around the changing of seasons, the four Makioka sisters always gather in Kyoto, Japan, to view the cherry blossoms, the ritual marking the changes in their lives from year to year. The film will be introduced by Noboru Tomonari, associate professor of Japanese and coordinator of East Asian Studies.
