Powerful graphics bring recent Latin American history alive.  Latin American Posters: Public Aesthetics and Mass Politics opens in the Carleton Art Gallery Friday evening, January 8.  Teresa Eckmann, assistant professor of Latin American art history from the University of Texas, San Antonio, and one of the exhibition catalogue authors, will present “Latin American Posters: Graphic Elements,” at 7:30 p.m. in 104 Boliou Hall, followed by the opening reception in the Art Gallery from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

These passionate posters, deploying bold graphic language, will heat up the cold Minnesota New Year.   Featuring over 50 posters from eleven countries including Cuba, Peru, Chile and Puerto Rico, the exhibition features some of the most iconic images of the later 20th century, including the likeness of Cuban revolutionary leader Che Guevara, and posters designed in solidarity with the United Farm Workers unionization campaign in the U.S.
