Delve into the arts of the Far East and Pacific regions
Ranging from Chinese Tang dynasty tomb figurines to prints by contemporary Australian Aboriginal artists, Carleton’s Asian and South Pacific art collection encompasses a significant arc of history and culture. The collection also includes Japanese prints, Chinese and Korean ceramics, and Buddhist devotional objects.
Generous donations from Dr. Percy Watson, a medical missionary and Carleton graduate (class of 1903), make up a significant group of Chinese and Korean artifacts.
Many objects have been acquired through Carleton’s academic programs and projects.
- The Studio Art in the South Pacific Off-Campus Studies program nurtures ties to far-flung artists and brings art objects back to campus.
- World Ceramics: Transforming Women’s Traditions, an exhibition co-curated by Laurel Bradley and Kelly Connole, inspired acquisitions from Lombok, Indonesia.
