Gary Coyle (b. 1965)

A multidisciplinary artist based in Dublin, Gary Coyle works across media ranging from drawing and installation to photography and performance. He studied at the National College of Art in Dublin and the Royal College of Art in London (MA in sculpture, 1996).

Coyle’s ongoing At Sea, comprised of photographs from his daily swims in the Irish Sea and ephemera further documenting this daily “performance,” was featured at the Royal Hibernian Academy in a 2010 solo exhibition. His evocative drawings have been featured in solo (recently at the RHA, Dublin) and group shows; Coyle is among the sixteen contemporary Irish artists in 2116: Forecast of the Next Century at the Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University, and the Glucksman Gallery, University of Cork.

Celebrated as a draftsman with a commitment to experimentation and a keen sense of art history, Coyle has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally, responded creatively to commissions, and received numerous awards from entities including the RHA, the Henry Moore Foundation, and the Ireland-U.S. Council, which promotes commerce between the countries.
