Rebecca Hutchinson

Rebecca HutchinsonRebecca Hutchinson invokes the natural world in ambitious installations incorporating fired and unfired paper clay and other materials. Her work is inspired by the complex structures of nature, which she interprets and articulates in works that ultimately reflect on the human condition.

My work focuses on the respect for process and the endless influences found in nature. Formally and structurally, my interest is in the details: quality of craft, connections, and structure, and conceptually an understanding of all physical parts to the whole.

Hutchinson, who currently teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, received a BA from Berea College and an MFA from the University of Georgia, Athens. She was recently selected as the Massachusetts representative for the National Museum of Women in the Arts and will be featured in the Women to Watch exhibition there in 2015.  Hutchinson has exhibited widely, participated in several artist residencies, and her work has been published in numerous ceramics periodicals.
