Charity Navigator Ratings for Private Liberal Arts Schools | Carleton College Profile

Carleton has been recognized by Charity Navigator with a four-star rating for the second consecutive year.

The group stated that receiving four out of a possible four stars shows Carleton adheres to good governance and other best practices and consistently executes the College's mission in a fiscally responsible way. Only 12 percent of charities the group rates have received at least two consecutive four-star evaluations.

Carleton is one of only six national, liberal arts institutions of higher education to receive the four-star rating. Others included University of Puget Sound (Wash.), Davidson College (N.C.), Oberlin College (Ohio), St. Olaf College and Lafayette College (Pa.).

"As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their hard-earned dollars," Charity Navigator president and chief executive officer Ken Berger said. "In this competitive marketplace, Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator, highlights the fine work of efficient, ethical and open charities. Our goal in all of this is to provide donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make."
