Chérif Keïta, professor of French, was quoted in a March 10 New York Times article titled “Africa Makes Fine Films, Of Course, Projector May Fail.” The article highlighted the development of Fespaco, Africa’s premier film festival, held in Burkina Faso, while pointing out the logistical challenges of bringing African cinema to African audiences. Keïta directed a film about African National Congress founder John Dube that was set to be screened at the festival.
