Chérif Keïta, William H. Laird Professor of French and the Liberal Arts, wrote a tribute for the late Joan Lulu Dube, 84, the last surviving daughter of Reverend John L. Dube, founding president of the African National Congress of South Africa. It was published in The Witness (Pietermaritzburg, SA) under the title, “Memories of Lulu Dube must be a springboard for teaching,” and was read during a national funeral held at the Ohlange High School, in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.
