Those wide-eyed youngsters you’re seeing all over the Bald Spot this week are part of a successful annual initiative. The Minnesota Private College Week will bring hundreds of prospective students and their parents to campus between June 26 and June 30.

Each of the 17 Minnesota private colleges and universities that make up the Minnesota Private College Council is taking part in the weeklong series of information events and tours, offered daily at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The 13-year-old program brought 400 prospective students to the Carleton campus in 2005, and numbers are shaping up to be just as big this year, says associate dean of admissions Meg Otten. About 80 percent of students attending the tours are rising seniors, she adds.
