History and CMS Selection Process

Reason development was started by staff and student workers of the Web Services group in 2002.

In early 2006, the college accepted the Web Services group's request to release Reason as an open source application.

Current Status

Carleton has been using Reason in production since 2003. Virtually all offices and departments, and most student groups, manage their websites using Reason. The Carleton Web Services group has created hundreds of themes and modules for use at Carleton, and approaches development with an eye toward what can be included in the Reason core. While we stay quite busy on Carleton web projects, we are actively working on growing the Reason community, and working with peer institutions to shape the future of Reason.

A Favorite Thing

Reason lets our web developers and designers apply attention to a comprehensive vision for the Carleton website. We are able to built and deploy tools and themes that can be used by any Reason site, instead of doing custom projects that apply to only one office or department.
