Mara Block (University of Redlands, B.A.; Harvard University, M.A., Ph.D.) teaches courses spanning modern Christianity and American religion, queer studies, global health and economics, and histories of science and medicine. Her research lies at the intersection of modern Christianity, medicine, and sexuality. She loves exploring ways authors rework ancient texts to address modern problems, and ways authors use poetry, performance, and vividly imaginative writing to critique and reimagine religion and the sacred. She is passionate about the circus arts having spent three years as a flying trapeze instructor. Mara loves traveling and cooking, and she’s happiest being outside doing all kinds of warm weather activities with her bold adventurous Pomeranian, Cortez.
