Marynel Ryan Van Zee

Education & Professional History

 

I received my BA in history with honors from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1998 and my PhD in history from the University of Minnesota in 2006.

I was employed previously as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota, Morris (Associate Professor of History, 2011-2015; Assistant Professor of History, 2005-2011), where I also served as the Campus Coordinator for National, International, and All-University Scholarships and Fellowships.

Director of Student Fellowships Marynel Ryan Van Zee advises Carleton students and recent alumni applying for most highly competitive external fellowships and manages all on-campus elements of the evaluation and endorsement processes for such fellowships.  She is also responsible for Carleton-funded opportunities managed through the Office of Student Fellowships. 

Student Fellowships

Marynel began at Carleton as Director of Student Fellowships in June 2015. Her experience includes 10 years at the University of Minnesota-Morris as an Associate Professor of History, and she also served as the Campus Coordinator for National, International and all-University Scholarships and Fellowships. Marynel received her B.A. from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. A former Fulbright Grantee, she is now President of the Minnesota Chapter of the Fulbright Alumni Association.
