Education & Professional History

I left Carleton intent on getting a PhD in Computer Science, specializing in recommendation systems. I had done REUs during all three of my summers, two at Carleton and one at Notre Dame. When I got into the PhD program at UMN, I realized it wasn't for me, so I got an internship doing recommendations at Amazon. I liked it enough that I came back full time after finishing my M.S.

Since 2013 I have been working on Natural Language Understanding (getting machine actionable understanding from text) for Alexa.
