Bios of some ACA members

I'm a sophomore, intending to be a biology/Chemistry major. I was drawn to ACA because it was the first place on campus I actually felt like home. I also like the idea of meeting people I can actually be myself around and discuss issues related to our beloved continent.

I am a sophomore, born and bred in beautiful Botswana.  I got my first taste of life in America during my last year of high school where I was an exchange student at Roxbury Latin School in Boston. I am an Economics major and a huge Manchester United fan.

As an Eritrean, I have been raised by parents who made sure to instill Eritrean culture at home.  Growing up, it was imperative that I was knowledgeable on the history of Eritrea and its current state. My interest has grown to the welfare of other African nations. My involvement in AFRISA has made me more aware of issues that not only pertain to my corner of the continent, but also Africa as a whole. Additionally, I have become more eager to educate the public about topics involving Africa that lack the attention they deserve.

As one of the co-chairs of this organization, I have high hopes for the programs that we are working to organize for the campus. I spent the first eight-years of my life in the beautiful sunshine of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My parents have instilled in my brother and I an appreciation for our homeland, as well as an understanding of the struggles that are very much a reality throughout Africa.  I hope to work and collaborate with the members of this group as well as other organizations both here on campus and off campus to help establish an understanding of the commonalities that exist between Africa and the Caribbean.
