This Friday at 3:45 p.m. in Leighton 304, Valerie Cervenka will talk about her work as a Forensic Entomologist and her involvement with the Minnesota DNR Forest Health Program. She will talk about her work and experiences as a forensic entomologist -how she looks at the insects in dead organisms to assist with crime scene analysis and death investigations. Her experiences will shed light on the relatively unknown and fascinating field of forensic entomology while also providing insight to the important role of decomposers in ecosystems. Cervenka will also talk about her work as an entomologist with the State of Minnesota Forest Health Program - currently focused on the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle. This beetle currently threatens forests all over the state, including the ones in the Arb. Currently Cervenka researches means of combating this beetle and its effects.
