We started the meeting off with a discussion of what we did over spring break (both our real spring breaks and our imaginary spring breaks). 


1) Food Truth is hosting a "Food Forum" Wednesday of 3rd week (4/11) at 6:30 pm in the Weitz Center 236. Professors, Bon Appetit, farmers, administrators (Fred Rogers, Dan Bergeson), etc. are coming together to talk about food policy so they can implement a Real Food Policy. They want to build a large student body base to be at this event, so if you are interested, please go to support this mission. Questions? koshkina

2) Summer jobs for good causes with The Fund for the Public Interest

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. They run campaigns for the Human Rights Campaign, USPIRG, and Environment America. This summer they will be in over 50 cities, working and lobbying to help win environmental and social justice campaigns. Currently, they have paid positions open on campaign staff in each of our locations. They require that interested candidates are hard workers and have excellent communication skills. They will be holding information sessions and interviews at Carleton April 3rd and 4th at 10am, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm each day. 3) Apply to attend next round of UN Climate Negotiations in Qatar, Nov.-Dec. 2012

Interested in going to the next round of United Nations climate negotiations in Doha, Qatar with the Sierra Student Coalition (SSC), the student branch of the Sierra Club? More information about the delegation is available here. The application can be found here.  The applications are due April 1, so act fast! The talks are taking place from November 26-December 7, 2012. 


NEW SOPE CO-PRESIDENTS! Our new co-presidents are Chelsea, Anne, and Amber. Congratulations!

Rebranding SOPE brainstorming

-Should we rename SOPE?

-Focus on education/events (like movies, events, etc.)

-One term themes: Reducing, reusing (have a clothing exchange event)

-Hands-on workshops: bike repair, sewing, canning, etc.

-Environmental activism, since MPIRG is gone

-Act as a coalition of other groups, and have small task forces/groups spring up for a term or two

-Be more focused and focus on a project, which will attract people

Theme for the term: Clothing

-Patching workshop/clothing repair workshop

-Clothes trading workshop

-Advertising drying racks/sustainable laundry practices

-Turning clothes into other things
