Workshop Attendance      

Participants are expected to attend all workshop meetings for the duration of the Institute.  If you have an emergency during the week that requires you to miss class, please make the appropriate arrangements with your instructor and inform the Summer Academic Programs Office.  Official confirmation of your participation in the Summer Teaching Institute is provided with a certificate of attendance confirming 30 clock hours of instruction.  Missed class time (or early departure from the Institute) will be deducted from this 30 hours.  Certificates of attendance will only be distributed at check out on the final day.

Transportation & Parking

For those who are flying in to attend the Summer Teaching Institute, the Carleton campus is located approximately 4o miles south of the Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport (MSP) in Northfield, MN. It is possible to get an Uber or Lyft from the airport to campus but there is NOT service from Northfield back to the airport. Advance shuttle transportation reservations can be made to and from the airport from either of these services: First Choice Shuttle or Northfield Lines.

Participants who are driving to campus are welcome to park in any campus parking lot or on the street. Some street parking does have restrictions so obey all posted “2 Hour Parking” and “No Parking” signs, they will be enforced all week.

On-Campus Housing

June Institute housing is provided starting at 3:00pm on Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28, 2019. The first meal served will be dinner in the dining hall on Monday, June 24 and the last meal will be lunch on Friday, June 28.

Each participant who has reserved space in our air-conditioned residence halls will be provided with a linen pack that contains: bed sheets, one pillow, one pillowcase, one blanket, one bath towel, and one washcloth (toiletries are not included). The bath towel is relatively small, so we recommend that you bring your own bath towel(s). You may wish to bring an extra blanket (the temperature is centrally controlled for the entire building, sometimes rooms can be cool) and clothes hangers for your room. If you would like to bring a computer, most campus buildings have wireless internet access, including the residence halls (ethernet cables are not provided). During your stay, you will also have access to the Recreation Center and recreation facilities including the squash/racquetball courts, tennis courts, and the pool.

On-Campus Dining

Meals will be served in one of the Carleton Dining Halls. Summer Teaching Institute tuition includes lunch for all participants. Participants staying in on-campus housing have the addition of breakfast and dinner included.
