Ultimate Frisbee at Carleton

Ultimate Frisbee has existed within the Carleton community for over 30 years and, over time, has become part of the College’s culture. Upon arrival to Carleton, every first year student receives a Carleton Frisbee unique to his/her class year. There are five different teams representing various levels of Ultimate experience and ability, and weekly Ultimate pick-up games among students, faculty and staff going on throughout the entire calendar year. Much like students approach learning with enthusiasm, respect, energy and a uniquely Carleton brand of playfulness, the overall Ultimate community approaches the sport in the spirit of the game.

Carleton Recreational Facilities

Outdoor Activities

In the green spaces around campus you may find yourself immersed in a game of frolf, ultimate Frisbee, or other outdoor sports.  For walkers, bicyclists, runners, and cross-country skiers, there’s no better place to work up a sweat than our 880-acre Cowling Arboretum. Part recreation area, part nature refuge, The Arb is the perfect spot to clear your head (and move your feet) after class.

Recreation Center

Carleton's 80,000 square foot Recreation Center features a 200 meter indoor track, four indoor tennis/basketball courts, racquetball courts, a 5300 square foot fitness center and weight room, an aerobics studio, and a climbing wall.

Climbing & Bouldering Wall

Carleton's 30ft high rock wall is molded granite simulating actual climbing surfaces from a mold of Minnehaha Falls, near Minneapolis. It has five climbing ropes available, and offers four different levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and lead. The bouldering wall was installed in the summer of 2005 and its walls are 12ft high. A textured rubber mold was pushed over drying concrete plaster to create a rough surface and the flooring consists of recycled car tires six inches deep. Climbing routes are marked with tape and emphasis is on lateral motion. In addition, the bouldering wall does not require ropes or working with a partner.

Dance/Aerobic Studio

A moderate sized studio with a sprung wooden floor is available for aerobic, dance, classes, fitness, and group activities. In order to ensure the quality of our dance studio flooring, we do require a clean pair of non-marking shoes while using the dance studio. No street shoes are allowed. We reserve the right to deny access to anyone with inappropriate footwear.

Squash/Racquetball Courts

Three full-sized courts have glass back walls, allowing lots of light and viewing opportunities. The two middle courts are retractable to allow conversion into squash courts. One court is fitted with wallyball attachments. We do require non-marking athletic shoes while using the courts. No street shoes are allowed. We reserve the right to deny access to anyone with inappropriate footwear.
