Compost Facility- The Mulch Store

Location: Rosemount, MN, Drive time: 30 min one-way, Tour time: 1 hour, Total time: 2 hours, Attendees of this tour are responsible for their own transportation and encouraged to carpool to reduce burning fossil fuels. 

Organics recycling- what happens to your banana peels and apple cores after throwing them in the collection bin? Tour the Mulch Store’s Rosemount site where they turn food waste into a hearty soil amendment.

Farm to Fork Tour- Carleton Student Organic Farm & Bon Appetit Dining Company 

Location: Carleton Campus, Shuttle Drive time: 10 min Walking Time: 30 min, Tour time: 1 hour, Total time: 1 hour, 30 min

See the 2 acre campus farm grows the produce you have been eating all weekend and how those carrots and beets make their way from the farm to your fork in Carleton’s dining halls. This tour includes walking to multiple facilities, bring a reusable drinking container and wear comfortable shoes.

100 Years of Energy Tour- Carleton Facilities Steam Plant & East Energy Station

Location: Carleton Campus, Walk time: 10 min walk, Tour time: 1 hour, Total time: 1 hour, 20 min

You are on campus at a unique time- both our 1910 steam plant and 2019 east energy station will be online! Before the 1910 steam plant transitions to compliment the east energy station, visit both to learn about Carleton’s Utility Master Plan. Meet in the commons area before heading to room 230 for a short presentation.

Fighting Food Insecurity Tour- Carleton Food Recovery Network & Northfield SuperShelf

Location: Carleton College and Northfield Community Action Center, Shuttle Drive time: 10 min one-way, Tour time: 1.5 hours, Total time: 1 hour, 50 min

Food insecurity and food waste go hand in hand, see how Carleton’s volunteer Food Recovery Network has partnered with the local SuperShelf to redistribute food throughout our community. On this tour, you will learn the operations of Food Recovery Network and tour the new SuperShelf, a food shelf for the 21st century. Meet in the commons area before heading to room 236 for a short presentation.

Renewable Energy- Carleton Wind Turbine & Community Solar Garden

Location:  Carleton College, Shuttle Drive time: 15 min one-way, Tour time: 30 minTotal time: 1 hour

On-site renewable energy is a strategy that many campuses are implementing to achieve their carbon neutrality goals. See how both Carleton and St. Olaf are implementing two kinds of renewable energy: wind and solar.
