New Development

Don HasseltineThe Carleton community was pleased to welcome Don Hasseltine in November as the College’s new vice president for external relations. “Don is a nationally recognized leader in development who has compiled a remarkable record of strengthening not just the fund-raising at every place where he has worked, but indeed the entire institution,” says President Steve Poskanzer.

Hasseltine comes to Carleton from Dickinson College (Pennsylvania), where he was vice president for college advancement. He also has worked in external relations and development at Colby-Sawyer College (New Hampshire), the University of Virginia, Georgetown University, and New England College (New Hampshire). He is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and is a frequent speaker at its conferences. He and his wife, Rebecca Bliss, have two daughters.

“What ultimately sold my family and me on Carleton was its commitment to excellence, an openness to exploring new ways of working, a humility and respect among faculty and staff members, and a commitment to doing this good work as a community,” says Hasseltine. “That is a special formula and one that it will be a privilege to serve.”
