The Learning Community

Fall 2014 (November 19, 2014)
I have participated in some meetings with our consortium for online learning (LACOL). There are three main issues or initiatives that have come out of the consortium so far. The first two concern ways to assess the quantitative or language skills of incoming students, allowing us both to place them into the right courses when they arrive on campus, but also facilitating tutoring possibilities that would improve the preparation the students bring to their early terms. The third issue involves examining the degree to which our students bring a habit of successful reading to their studies. This is the issue that has interested me most deeply.
Below we will have short introductions for this year’s LTC Fellows. Their primary role is to serve as student observers to visit classes, offering a student’s eye to give feedback to professors.
