In this newsletter, I focus on things that came up when we did a survey of the community on their attitudes toward the LTC. I have chosen several main issues from the survey. After summarizing the survey, I include some personal reactions to the sessions we have had on student concerns such as social identities and trigger warnings. The final item is on programs for mentoring new faculty.
Survey: General trends
I sent a survey to the community last term in order to help in making sure that the programming of the LTC meets the community’s needs. Overall, it showed satisfaction both from faculty and staff. There are some issues I will discuss below, with some ideas for things we could improve. But the survey showed that the LTC is used, and appreciated.I am now in my third year at the LTC, and this means that I have worked with three groups of new faculty members. Each year this includes around 20-25 people, including tenure track colleagues and shorter-term appointments.
Some of our best-attended events this term concerned issues of campus climate and diversity.
The LTC is currently accepting proposals for fall term lunches and book groups; please submit your ideas, here, via the online submission form by Monday, May 9.
