Michelle Hoge '16  Michelle Hoge '16, LTC Fellow

Hello, I’m Michelle!  I’m a senior Environmental Studies major and Seattle, Washington is my home away from Northfield.  I’ve long been interested in ecology and conservation, but some of my favorite ENTS courses at Carleton have led me to interests in economics, religion, and studio art.  I’m thinking about teaching in the future and spent this past summer working in the children’s education programs at the New York Botanical Garden, where I also learned a lot about how to grow vegetables.  On campus I am very involved with dance, performing with Semaphore, the Experimental Dance Board, and Ebony II.  I enjoy walking or drawing in the Arb in my free time, and scuba diving and swimming when I’m closer to the ocean.  I’m very excited to join the LTC as a Student Fellow this year!

Jacqueline Liu '16 Jacqueline Liu '16, LTC Fellow

My name is Jacqueline Liu, and I'm a senior Studio Art and Philosophy major from Hong Kong. I mostly do photography as an artist, and I'm very interested in Asian contemporary art. Besides being an LTC Fellow, I also work as a museum attendant for the Perlman Teaching Museum. My other interests include traveling, playing volleyball, and watching all sorts of movies. I feel very fortunate to be a LTC Fellow and I look forward to learning more about learning with every one of  you!

Andre Miller '16 Andre Miller, LTC Fellow

I am originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, but I have a lot of family ties to Minnesota.  I am a senior ENTS major at Carleton College, with a focus on food and agriculture.  As an ENTS major, I have taken a variety of classes in a variety of departments. This last summer, I had an internship with the Congressional Research Service in Washington D.C. I was a research assistant in their Natural Resources division focusing on domestic and world fisheries. Since graduating high school, I have spent a lot of time traveling internationally and going on camping trips in the Southwest, Rocky Mountains, and northern Minnesota. I enjoy non-fiction books, cooking, going on runs, hiking, and reading up the news.

Caleb Rakestraw-Morn '18 Caleb Rakestraw-Morn '18, LTC Fellow

This is Caleb — a junior at Carleton. I’m abroad in Berlin at the moment, but I’m very excited to return to campus this winter. I’m a political science major. However, my focus is on political theory. My particular academic interests are Nietzsche and Plato. My more general interests bridge the gap between philosophy and political science — the major selection process was difficult. I was lucky this summer to receive a fellowship from Carleton to spend a month at the Nietzsche archives in Germany to complete a research project. I’m also very interested in pedagogy and the use of technology in teaching. In terms of extracurricular activities, I play trumpet in the Carleton orchestra and play frisbee for the Hot Karls.
