New Faculty

I have organized small-group mentoring lunches, faculty orientations, winter workshops, and I have had many one-on one meetings with these new colleagues.  As I expected, doing this has been the primary joy of serving as LTC director.   The talent, energy, and good will I have seen in this group are impressive and striking.   We are fortunate to have people like this in our community.

Last year the Junior Faculty Affairs Committee started a program that has junior faculty members visit the classes of senior faculty.  In fall term I worked with JFAC to help to organize the match making process.  We sent out a call to find people who would like to make visits, as well as colleagues who were willing to have their classes visited. It has been going well, and in the coming weeks I will send out the call again in order to refresh the list of classes that could be visited.

I have been pleased with this year’s LTC Fellows.  They have been visiting classes as well, offering the student perspective to faculty members who want feedback on their courses.  Junior faculty are the primary users of the program, but I think senior faculty might make use of it as well in order to test out new methods they are trying in their courses.  If you have any interest in using the student observer program, please contact me.
