Sunday, Jan. 26 from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the public is invited to a Carleton College faculty recital paying tribute to ‘The Antique Trombone.’ Featuring performances by Ron Rodman, professor of music and director of the Carleton Symphony Band, along with guests Stella Fritzell and Mikyla Carpenter, as well as the Carleton Trombones and the Northfield Trombones. This special tribute to ‘The Antique Trombone’ will take place in the Concert Hall and is free and open to the public.
The program will feature music composed before 1760 for solo trombone and trombone ensemble. Music by Frescobaldi, Giovanni Gabrieli, Schutz, Handel, Morales, and Leopold Mozart will be performed.
Rodman focuses his studies on music theory and the analysis of music in electronic media. He is a contributor to several prestigious journals, a consultant to the College Board on Advanced Placement exams in music theory and the author of Tuning In: American Narrative Television Music (Oxford University Press, 2010). Rodman received his Ph.D. in music theory from Indiana University in 1992.
