Tadd Johnson, co-producer and co-host of the PBS series “Native Report,” will present Carleton College’s weekly convocation on Friday, Nov 6 from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel. “Native Report” is an entertaining and informative magazine style series that celebrates Native American culture and heritage.

This event is free and open to the public. Carleton convocations are recorded and archived for online viewing at go.carleton.edu/convo/.

“Native Report” attracts both general and tribal audiences, with a goal of promoting understanding between cultures, tribes and reservations – offering a space for the stories of challenge and success in tribal communities – and educating public television viewers about the culture and traditions of native citizens.

Johnson is an enrolled member of the Minnesota Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. He is an attorney and a professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he head of the American Indian studies department. Johnson served as a tribal attorney for over twenty years, but has also served as a tribal court judge, a tribal administrator and is a frequent lecturer on American Indian history and Federal Indian law. He spent five years with the U.S. House of Representatives, ultimately becoming staff director and counsel to the Subcommittee on Native American Affairs. In 1997, President Clinton appointed Mr. Johnson to chair the National Indian Gaming Commission.

Johnson earned his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and his law degree from the University of Minnesota.
