Carleton hosts public lecture by renowned relationship expert, Dr. Pepper Schwartz

April 4, 2016

Renowned author, television personality, and relationship expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz will present “Affection, Sex and Satisfaction in Happy Couples” at Carleton College on Wednesday, April 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Leighton Hall Room 305. This event is free and open to the public.

It may say something of the times, but love research has resurfaced, and studies on love, affection, and sex in relationships have added to our knowledge about how this potent emotion, and its attendant actions, touch and shape our lives and fulfillment.  This lecture will look at some of the newer (and older) research on love, affection and sex and assess what actions link up with commitment and satisfaction within intimate, committed relationships.

A well-known author and popular speaker, Pepper Schwartz is a leading scholar whose work bridges the gap between academia and the general public. She is the author and/or co-author of 25 books, including “50 Myths about Human Sexuality,” “American Couples: Money, Work and Sex,” “The Normal Bar: The Surprising Secrets of Happy Couples,” “Dating over 50 for Dummies,” “Places for Passion: The 75 Most Romantic Places in the World,” and “40 Snap Strategies for a Great Relationship.” Dr. Schwartz also wrote the "Sex and Health" column for Glamour magazine for seven years.

She has appeared on television programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dateline, and Dr. Phil, as well as on programs for the cable television network Lifetime. She was the 2005 President of the Pacific Sociological Association, helped create the dating web site Perfectmatch.com, and is a sexuality adviser for WebMD. Dr. Schwartz is presently professor of sociology at the University of Washington, the AARP Love, Sex and Relationship Ambassador, and one of the four experts on the hit A&E and FYI television show, Married at First Sight

Pepper Schwartz received her Ph.D from Yale University in 1974. For more information, visit www.drpepperschwartz.com.
