Popular Palestinian-Israeli writer and journalist presents Forkosh Lecture in Judaic Studies

Popular Palestinian-Israeli author, journalist and television screenwriter Sayed Kashua will present Carleton’s annual Forkosh Lecture in Judaic Studies on Monday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in Leighton Hall Room 305. Kashua’s presentation, “From The Mid-East to the Mid-West: Reflections of a Palestinian-Israeli Author,” is free and open to the public.

Born in Tira, Israel in 1975, Kashua is the author of three novels and a collection of reflections written for Israel’s “Haaretz” newspaper (equivalent to our New York Times). In his writings as well as the screenwriter for the successful sitcom he created, “Arab Labor,” whch takes a humorous look at life for an Arab family living in Israel, he focuses on issues of Palestinian identity within Israel, as well as pluralism in Israeli society. Kashua is the recipient of numerous literary awards and he has been profiled in The New Yorker and on National Public Radio.
