The Uninvited Company (UNCO), a group of Carleton College students who produce and perform plays for the Northfield community throughout the summer, will kick-off their 2007 season with Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” The show premieres Thursday, July 5 in the Arena Theater, with additional performances on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7. All performances take place at 8 p.m. in the Arena Theater. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.
Directed by Ben Egerman ’08 (Weston, Mass.) and Arika Garg ’10 (Singapore), “All My Sons” was Arthur Miller’s first commercially successful play, garnering important critical acclaim for the dramatist, and later winning the prestigious New York Drama Critics' Circle Award. Set in 1947, it tells the story of an American family struggling to come to terms with the death of a son and the impending public scandal of the father. Set in the tradition of both Henrik Ibsen and Greek tragedy, “All My Sons” is ultimately a piercing criticism of the American Dream. The play was later made into a 1948 feature film of the same name starring Edward G. Robinson and Burt Lancaster.
UNCO has been producing and performing plays for more than 30 years on the campus of Carleton College. UNCO supports itself through ticket revenues and the generous support of Carleton and various area businesses. In addition to “All My Sons,” the 2007 summer season includes Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” (July 19, 20 and 21) and Ken Ludwig’s “Moon Over Buffalo” (August 16, 17 and 18).
Carleton’s Arena Theater is located at the corner of East Second and Nevada Streets.
