QuIRK-y Reasoning
Dr. Nathan Grawe
Associate Professor of Economics and Associate Dean of the College
Sunday, April 17, 2011 – 6 p.m.
Churchill Room, The Black Labrador Restaurant
4100 Montrose Boulevard, Houston, TX
QuIRK is Carleton’s Quantitative Inquiry, Reasoning and Knowledge initiative. The College’s goal is to empower students to navigate our data-rich world by embedding quantitative reasoning in all parts of the curriculum, much as it has promoted writing across the curriculum for many years.
Dr. Nathan Grawe will take us through many of Carleton professor Neil Lutsky’s Ten Foundational Quantitative Reasoning Questions with entertaining and thought-provoking examples of poorly- and well-reasoned quantitative arguments drawn from the national media.
As one scholar has put it, “The 21st century is a world awash in numbers.” This is a truly exciting opportunity to be introduced to this cutting edge thinking about the information we deal with every day!
Cost: $22, includes dinner of Shepherd's Pie, a small salad, bread and butter, a mini-Double Fudge Mousse Cake, and coffee or tea, tax and tip on the meal and tip on any beverages you order. The vegetarian option is a grilled garden vegetable platter.
Questions: Mary Watson ’66. If you need further assistance, contact the Alumni Relations Office at 800-729-2586 or alumni-office@carleton.edu
