What better way to celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th birthday than with fellow Carls? We will start with a guided tour of several Burnham Block residences, exploring these early pre-fabricated houses and learning more about Wright’s abiding interest in creating housing that was both affordable and beautiful. Then, we will gather at local architecture firm Kahler Slater to talk with Class of ’65 alum Sidney Robinson, Architect, emeritus professor at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and recent Visiting Professor at Carleton. Professor Robinson will share his thoughts and insights from Burnham Block and contextualize the Milwaukee Art Museum’s (MAM) exhibit Frank Lloyd Wright: Buildings for the Prairie. We will cap the afternoon at the MAM, viewing a selection of Wright’s famed designs and examples of Wright’s furniture, stained glass, and textiles. Participants are welcome to attend just one or all of the activities (see additional information and costs, below).

Special Event Notes:

  1. Please note that the Burnham Block buildings are not handicapped accessible and do not have public restrooms.
  2. Carpooling between the multiple locations will be coordinated on site at the first location; time will be allowed between the second and third locations to allow participants to walk if they choose (approx. 0.7 miles by foot)

Cost: American System-Built Homes Burnham Block tour: $15
