"Tough Love: 10 Easy Pieces"

February 14, 2010, 7 p.m.

Packing House Center for the Arts
835 E. 50th Ave., Denver, CO 80216

Carleton alums, family, and friends are invited to a Master of Fine Arts thesis dance created and performed by Lauren Simpson '05. "Tough Love" is an Extraordinary Valentine's Day dance event full of stuffed animals, blind dates, weddings, microwaves, funerals, Ken dolls, and sword fights.  "Tough Love" roams the Meatpacking District and crawls into the hidden crevices of the PHCA theater exploring the bright, dark, hilarious, hopeful, disgusting sides of love. This exciting show also features a number of other M.F.A. students, including video art by Michelle Ellsworth and Gabriel Todd, a dance by Cortney McGuire and Charlie Dando, and live music by Nat Kundanis-Grow.

Following the show, join Lauren for a reception and Q&A session.

Lauren Simpson is an M.F.A. Candidate in Dance at the University of Colorado-Boulder.  She focuses on arts in education, Contact Improvisation, and choreography.  She teaches at Girls Inc.-Denver and at CU-Boulder.  Lauren has presented her work in Minneapolis, Washington D.C., New York City, and Madison, WI.   She was an artist-in-residence at the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange Summer Institute and a founding member of the dance collective, RAW-Ready at Will, in Minneapolis.  Lauren has presented her dance scholarship at conferences around the country.  She likes to make dances about the dances that are already happening and love.
