Twin Cities Walker Art Center Song of the Jasmine Performance
Song of the Jasmine featuring alumnae Aparna Ramaswamy ’97 (Co-Artistic Director) and Ashwini Ramaswamy ’03 (Company Dancer)
The Walker Art Center presents Song of the Jasmine featuring Aparna Ramaswamy ’97 (Co-Artistic Director) and Ashwini Ramaswamy ’03 (Company Dancer), with a pre-show talk from Philip Bither, Senior Curator for Performing Arts at the Walker Art Center
Experience an inspired new work on opening night! In India, the jasmine flower traverses the world of man and the world of the gods. Ragamala Dance Company (“Rapturous and profound,” The New York Times) co-directors Aparna and Ranee Ramaswamy collaborate with acclaimed jazz saxophonist/composer Rudresh Mahanthappa on an exploration that freely moves between past and present, composition and improvisation, music, and dance. Song of the Jasmine embodies the spiritual and the sensual that are the lifeblood of the Indian psyche.
Philip Bither, Senior Curator of Performing Arts at the Walker, will chat with attendees about his role as curator of music and dance at one of the nation’s premiere arts institutions. He will also discuss the process of commissioning a new work, with a focus on Song of the Jasmine.
Cost: $20 per person. SOLD OUT.
