invites you to

An Intimate History of the Boston Massacre
by Professor Serena Zabin

Saturday, December 10, 2011
Potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.; talk at 7 p.m.

at the
home of Candace Kohl ’69

Celebrate the holidays with Carleton alumni, parents, friends, and current and prospective students.  We will learn how the tangled social webs of friendship, love, and violence between civilian and military families in eighteenth-century Boston shaped the shooting that came to be known as the Boston Massacre—a conflict between neighbors, not strangers.

Professor Zabin has taught at Carleton College in the Department of History since 2000.  A former classicist, she is a historian of early America and the early modern Atlantic world and has particular interest in the ways that ordinary people had an impact on such immense and invisible institutions as empire, early capitalism, and Atlantic networks.  Professor Zabin is married to Chris Brunelle ’89.

RSVP by December 1 to the San Diego Carleton Club at sdcarletonclub@gmail.com.  To help us plan for attendance and food, please include the full names of all attending and their affiliations (class year, parent, friend); a phone number; whether you are bringing a main dish or side dish (six to eight servings); if you would like to volunteer before, during, or after the event; and if you need a parking spot (see directions below).  Please also come with your Carleton experiences to share with prospective students and their families.  Dessert and beverages will be provided.  A few volunteers would be appreciated to assist with this event.

If you have questions and need further assistance, contact the Alumni Relations Office at 800-729-2586 or alumni-office@carleton.edu.
