China Comes of Age: What the Olympics Showed Us

A Downtown Lunch with Profs. Roy Grow & Burt Levin

Wednesday, September 24, 12:15 p.m.

U.S. Bank Plaza (Fredrikson & Byron offices)

200 S. 6th Street, Suite 4000, Minneapolis

Program Host: Keith Libbey '59

While once most Americans knew more of China’s ancient than current culture, the Olympics put a spotlight on modern China. Spend your lunch with Carleton’s top China scholars to learn how the American media has affected our perceptions of China. Discuss China’s 21st-century development and how it compares with the U.S. Learn why our next American president needs to "get China right."

Burt Levin, former Ambassador and Carleton’s Sit Professor of Foreign Policy, served in the U.S. State Department for more than 35 years, mostly in Asia. Roy Grow, Carleton’s Frank B. Kellogg Professor of International Relations and the director of Carleton’s biannual Beijing Seminar in Political Economy, first traveled to Asia in the early 1960s.

Cost: $10 includes lunch. All reservations need to be paid in advance by credit card before September 22. To make your reservations (or if you have questions), contact the Alumni Affairs Office at 507-222-5842 or alumni-office@carleton.edu.
