Kathleen Ryor, chair of Carleton’s art and art history department, teaches courses on Asian art history, as well as courses on the methods of art history.  Her primary area of research is Chinese painting of the Ming dynasty, and other research and teaching interests include the relationship between the military and the visual arts in China, Chinese gardens, 20th century Chinese art and Japanese prints of the Edo and Meiji eras.  Ryor is the former editor of the journal Ming Studies, and is the current president of the Arts of China Consortium.  Her position at Carleton was sponsored by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation.
