Wine Tasting

Saturday, August 15, 2009, 5 p.m.

at the home of Bruce ’63 and Gretchen Johnson Keeler ’64

Jeff Pipes and Florence Wong will bring their wines to Los Angeles for tasting at the home of Bruce ’63 and Gretchen ’64 Keeler.  We will accompany the wine with some appetizers and dessert. 

Jeff Pipes ’83 and Florence Wong '84 founded the Pipestone Vineyard in 1997.  Jeff was a geology major at Carleton and then a lawyer.  Florence worked in the garment industry.  They decided to follow their dream by planting and developing the Pipestone Vineyard in Paso Robles.  They have done all of the work themselves except for assistance during the harvest.  Jeff and Florence will talk about the different grapes and their process for growing grapes.  They use organic methods where it makes sense.  To learn more see http://www.pipestonevineyards.com/.  They will also talk about how a flexible education helped them to transition from environmental law and fashion to organic farming.  Many of us have tasted the Pipestone wines and are familiar with them.  If you would like to order some wine in advance, send an email to Florence at and they will bring your order.  This will save shipping.  Some wine will also be available for purchase at the event. 

The cost of the tasting is $10.  Please make checks out to “Pipestone Vineyards.”  You are also invited, but not required, to bring an appetizer or dessert.
