Please join Carleton alums, parents and friends for what promises to be an enjoyable afternoon: a lecture by Carleton Professor of Art Fred Hagstrom.  Social time and light refreshments will follow his presentation.

Professor Hagstrom has been leading biannual trips for Carleton students to the Cook Islands, New Zealand, and Australia since 1996.  This is Carleton’s first off campus program in Studio Art.  He will talk about how this trip has changed his teaching as well as his own art practice.  The studio component of the trip centers on drawing from nature in natural parks, and printmaking while in urban locations.  It also serves as an introduction to the arts and culture of that region, including study of indigenous culture and ecological issues.

Fred Hagstrom is the Rae Schupack Nathan Professor of Art at Carleton.  He joined the faculty in 1984.  His artwork often deals with social issues, and he works primarily in printmaking and book arts.  His work is included in museum collections that include the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Walker Art Center.  His artist’s books are in many College and University collections, including Stanford University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Delaware.

Please RSVP to Club Co-Chairs Susi Votruba ’95 or Pat Votruba ’96 by March 15.
