Dear Portland Carls,

Looking forward to winter festivities? Our very own Debby Garman ’74 is the Executive Director of the Portland Revels ( ) and has put together a great deal for any and all Carleton folks (and friends/family).

Debby is offering a Northfield special for the Thursday, December 12, 7:30 p.m. show -- call the Box Office at 503-200-1604, mention the "Carleton Offer," and receive a buy one get one free ticket!

Depending on how many folks are interested we may also plan a drinks/food gathering before hand so please email me if you are planning on attending so we can get a head count. If that's not enough to get you excited, check out the below description!

“Once upon a Winter time in Old Europe, the town elders decide to build a wondrous clock to celebrate the cycle of seasons. After many years of mathematical calculations, careful engineering and mechanical construction the extraordinary clock is completed and the town throws a grand Winter Solstice party to coincide with the annual Mummers competition. They know the Empress and her entourage will attend and the clock will astound them.As the royal party enjoys the rich offerings of traditional songs and dance from Central and Southeastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Russia, Georgia, Macedonia, Serbia, and Poland), the Empress makes a decision that threatens the well-being of everyone in the village. And that’s not the only challenge on this winter solstice day. The mummers who came to compete don’t much get along…. but it's Christmas! They have to!“

RSVPs are appreciated to Leon Schneider ’06 by December 5.
