invites you to

Shakespeare with Professor Frank Morral

July 14 and 15, 2006
6:15 p.m.

The Old Globe Theatre

Balboa Park, San Diego

Carleton’s professor of English Frank Morral will lead a private pre-performance discussion before two summer Shakespeare productions at the Globe: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Titus Andronicus. Join us for either play—or both!

Friday, July 14: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

One of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies evokes a world of wonder, magic, and romance, where chaos erupts, lovers are mismatched, and all is reconciled through midsummer night revelries and faith in the power of nature.

Saturday, July 15: Titus Andronicus

Although the single most popular play in Shakespeare’s theatre during his lifetime, today it is considered one of his bloodiest, yet the passionate language balances beauty and barbarity, humanity and atrocity.

6:15 p.m. Meet on the sidewalk in front of the Globe. We will walk together to the location of the pre-performance discussion.

6:30–7:30 p.m. Pre-performance discussion with Professor Morral

8:00 p.m. Shakespeare production at the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre

The evening performances can be chilly. Bring a jacket; blankets may be rented at the door for a fee.
