Yuja, Moodle, and LA LogosITS is introducing two new technologies, YuJa and LabArchives, as well as an update to Moodle.

YuJa is software that allows you to create screen and voice recordings and share them directly and securely with students and colleagues. The testing and implementation of YuJa is a collaborative effort with St.Olaf and we hope to have stories of its use to share across the Cannon.  For installation and operation instructions, visit https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/its/services/learning/lecture_capture. For a schedule of YuJa and other ITS trainings, visit https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/its/calendar. Additionally, the first ITS [un]workshop will focus on the pedagogical moves made possible with technology such as YuJa. That session is Wednesday, September 21 at 3:15-4:15 in WCC027.

LabArchives is electronic notebook software that comes in two versions: classroom and professional. The classroom version allows you to manage a set of individual notebooks for each student; the professional version is great for organizing your research and involving collaborators. This software was successfully piloted by faculty in physics and chemistry with over 80 percent of students in the pilot recommending other courses adopt it. Though it was piloted in the sciences, this software is beneficial in any field that would find an organized electronic notebook system useful. To learn more about LabArchives, please visit http://go.carleton.edu/9b9c or attend one of our trainings. The first training is Thursday, September 22 at 3:15-4:00 pm in WCC027.

Moodle version 3.1 has a new look and new features such as a Recycle Bin and drag-n-drop quiz question types. In addition, improvements have been made in navigation, usability, assignment grading, and layout options. If you liked having your Moodle calendar automatically updated in Zimbra, please note that in Google you will need to subscribe to your Moodle calendar on your own.  All faculty and students will want to delete the “old” Moodle calendar that got migrated from Zimbra.  To learn more, please view our introductory video on What’s New in Moodle 3.1, review our online Moodle Documentation or get individual help from Academic Technology staff and AT Student Assistants in Weitz 027.

And the IdeaLab has been refreshed, including the addition of a 3D printer and a VR station.  Come visit our Open House on September 21st from noon-2pm.
