Carleton Celebrates Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday

April 17, 2014

Carleton College will host a birthday party honoring William Shakespeare in commemoration of his 450th birthday with performances, displays, and refreshments on Wednesday, April 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Room 172 of the Weitz Center for Creativity. This celebration is free and open to the public.

Shakespeare, an English poet, playwright and actor, is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist. Often referred to as the “Bard of Avon,” Shakespeare’s plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often that those of any other playwright. His plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studies, performed, and reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.
