Knights Tie for 11th at U.S. Collegiate Championships

Columbus, Ohio -- The Carleton College synchronized swimming team concluded the competition portion of its season by tying for 11th out of 21 teams at the U.S. Collegiate Championships. The Knights totaled 22.0 points, which matched the College of William and Mary.

The event marked the 32nd U.S. Synchronized Swimming Collegiate National Championships, which are an open-class meet, combining competition from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and NAIA colleges and universities.

Stanford University scored 94 points en route to winning its fourth consecutive U.S. collegiate title. Host Ohio State University captured second place with 87 points while Canisius College took home third place with 70 points.

Elise Cordo (Jr./Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) finished 13th during the semifinals of the solo competition with a score of 81.333. With only the top 12 advancing to Saturday’s finals, she was invited to perform as the pre-event swimmer.

Teammate Zofi Kudak-Field (Sr./Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) also participated in the solo swim, scoring 77.333 to place 15th out of 27 athletes during the semis.

The pair also tied for 14th in the duet competition, scoring 78.500. Carleton’s other duet entry of Stephanie Moberg (So./Scottsdale, Ariz./North Canyon) and Dara Strauss-Albee (Jr./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) tied for 19th after scoring 72.000. A total of 40 pairs were entered in the duet competition.

A total of 26 entries partook in the trio portion of the meet, with Cordo, Kudak-Field and Moberg placing 18th during the semi-finals with a combined score of 69.833.

Each of the five team members that traveled to the national championships took part in the “Figures” portion of the competition.

Liza Styles (Jr./Amherst, Mass./Pioneer Valley Performing Arts) took part in the D Figures and scored 24th out of 49 swimmers. Moberg was 14th and Strauss-Albee placed 16th in the C Figures.

Kudak-Field drew the last turn among the 51 B Figures competitors and scored 69.733, which ranked 16th.

In the A Figures competition, Cordo finished with 75.371 points, good for 27th out of 53 entrants.
