NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Trevor Freeland (Jr./DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) notched his third game-winning goal in as many contests to start the young season, lifting the Carleton College men’s soccer team to a 1-0 road triumph at North Central (Ill.) College. After scoring early in both of the Knights’ (3-0-0) first two victories of the campaign, this time around Freeland delivered the decisive tally in the 82nd minute.

Aidan Mullan (Sr./Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) made his first start of the season and registered four saves in notching his third career clean sheet.

Freeland had scored only one career goal over his first two seasons with the Knights but entered the week tied for the MIAC lead in goals (2). Tonight, he was held without a shot attempt until the junior forward accounted for the game’s lone score. Alvin Bierley (Fy./Santa Cruz, Calif./Leland) was credited with the assist as he played a ball on the ground to the back post where Freeland took a touch and finished into the top left corner. The goal came less than three minutes after Freeland returned to the field as a substitution.

The Cardinals (1-2-0) finished with a 16-8 edge in shots, including three in the final three minutes, but only four of those attempts were on target.

Carleton will host Crown College on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. and follow that up with a 3:30 p.m. contest versus Simpson College the next day.
