MOORHEAD, Minn. – Senior defender Mark Roth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had a goal and two assists as the Carleton College men’s soccer notched a 4-1 road win over Concordia College. The Knights improved to 7-1-1 on the year, their best start to a season since 2013.
Concordia (3-7-0, 0-5-0 MIAC) grabbed the early lead when Aronah Mukhtar knocked the ball into the Carleton net in the seventh minute.
Roth led the Carleton (1-1-1 MIAC) comeback as the Knights scored three times in less than 10 minutes. The first goal from the visitors came when Roth set up Marco da Cunha (Fy./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) in the 21st minute. The rookie converted for his third goal this season.
Eight minutes elapsed before Carleton grabbed the lead. Alvin Bierley (So./Santa Cruz, Calif./Leland) assisted on Roth’s second goal of the year and his career.
Only 90 more seconds passed before Roth notched his second assist of the contest and his team-best fifth on the season, this time setting up Nicolas Graese’s (Sr./Verona, Wis./Verona) first goal of the campaign.
The score remained 3-1 until the 64th minute. Concordia goalkeeper Jackson Carr saved da Cunha’s shot but Graese was there to cleanup for his second tally of the match.
After the initial hiccup, Carleton goalkeeper Aaron Forman (So./Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) kept the Cobbers from cutting into the deficit. The Knights finished the day with an 11-4 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights have a non-conference match slated for Thursday, Oct. 4 at University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Carleton will then return to conference action and host No. 16-ranked University of St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
